Yes, I'm finally typing up the overdue post on the NYC meet that occurred last Friday!
Well to sum it up in a word, it was AWESOMMMMMMEEEEEE. :D
There were so many occurrences, that I don't know where to begin.
Alright, from the beginning, I guess. XD
Last Friday, I dressed up in a full shiro-lolita getup and travelled by subway to
the Grand Central Terminal station, which has
this HUGE aqua celestial painting on the ceiling. At first I thought we were going to gather on the lower level below the terminal, where the restaurants and cafes were, but since I couldn't find them I went back upstairs and walked beyond the ticket/information (?) booth in the center. I heard Zoe or Virginia call my name, and then I saw that a couple of girls were already there (
ongaku_chan and
sindromatic, to be exact) besides the hosts. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures, but sindromatic was wearing boystyle and ongaku_chan was wearing sweet lolita (pics coming up to an egl post near you!). After that,
curly_b and everybody else started arriving. Agghhhh, I am so angry at myself for not taking pictures when we were at the GC Terminal, because curly_b had this really amazing mint x black classic coordinate that was seriously out of this world! She even found a matching mint umbrella!! How friggin' awesome is that? AHEM, but anyways....the last people to arrive were
communistmuffin,
amanikitty, and
snelkookpan, whom all arrived at the same time. Amber (amanikitty) actually went out of her way to meet up with snelkookpan (our import lolita from the Netherlands) at the hotel where she was staying and ESCORTED her to the GC Terminal! Amber, if you are reading this, you are completely chivalrous and honorable, and I respect you more than ever. ;_;
At around 10:50 AM, the last two girls that were supposed to come didn't arrive, so we decided to browse some of the shops that were located at the terminal while waiting for them. When we stepped into the Godiva shop, the employee wanted a picture of us! She gave us free samples of this banana and coconut truffle, which I was initially hesistant to eat. I asked if anybody else wanted it, but Virginia persuaded me to try it. I did a "now you see it, now you don't!" move, and just shoved the entire truffle into my mouth, hahaha. After that, we headed back into the main hall with the celestial ceiling, but in the end, the two girls never showed up. (Later on we found out that one of them had thought that the meet was on Saturday, lol.)
First we headed to Sephora, but stopped at an H&M on our way. Most of us looked at the accessories only. A man wanted to take a picture of us, but the security guy wouldn't let us. >:c Even
yumewo, who worked at that particular H&M, said that they probably changed that rule very recently because that was not the case before. Sucks, but oh well. We trekked over to the flagship (?) Sephora shop on Fifth Avenue, where we spent a good amount of time goggling at the huge amount of makeup inside. I was talking to Charlotte (snelkookpan) about Dutch lolitas. We ended up in a corner along with Bianca (curly_b) and Dalin (ongaku_chan). One of the employees came up to us and asked what it was that was were wearing, to which I gave him a full exposition about lolita. He responded with something along the lines of, "I like that! It's fresh and different-- I think you guys should stick to what you're doing!" And then he offered the four of us complimentary freebies as well as membership into their Beauty Insider program. ( o_o ) I guess store employees really do treat us better when we're dressed in lolita haha. More freebies prz.
What I got:

Ren facial cleansing gel, Sephora Atomic Volume mascara, & Sephora Vanilla Cupcake bath/shower gel.
Unfortunately none of the other lolitas got freebies (sorry guys), even though we tried. :s The guy didn't look too happy when I started pointing him out, lol.
Afterwards we headed to Saks Fifth Avenue, an upscale department store for the affluent. A whole crapload of Saks employees working at the makeup counters were fascinated by our outfits! They kept stopping us at every counter or so. We made our way to the Juicy Couture section at one of the upper floors, after being thwarted in our attempt to locate the Betsey Johnson section (they told us they didn't have one; Virginia seemed a bit crestfallen). After the girls had a look around, Virginia gathered everybody to tell her version of what I call the "L'il Mama Trauma".
Long story short: Virginia's hairdresser is actually a good friend of L'il Mama's. Whenever Virginia would come in to get her hair done, her hairdresser would have conversations with Virginia about her lolita clothes. Eventually, Virginia gave her hairdresser the links to two websites; that of Baby's and that of AP's. A couple of months later, the L'il Mama AP incident happens. LMAO. Guess who's responsible? ;P
We walked to Naniwa, the Japanese restaurant we planned to eat at for lunch, after Saks. We had to take off our shoes before we entered the tatami room (took forever to put them back on XD). Most of us got Tempura. I couldn't finish it because the tempura batter was too thick. You know the feeling when you have too much of something and that makes you want to puke? That was how it was. D:
Shipchan had to leave for work after Naniwa.

From left to right: ongaku_chan, curly_b, snelkookpan, sindromatic, amanikitty (flashing her monies-- CAN I HAS SOME? 8D), and burikkoxp.
Mmkay! So after lunch we headed to the Japanese sweets shop Minamoto Kitchoan. Everything was friggin' expensive; oy, one measly jelly treat costs anywhere from $2 to $4. We also ventured into La Maison, a French pastries shop, as it was located conveniently in the Rockefeller Center area. When I saw all the delicious sweets in that shop, I started salivating. There were four flavors of macarons-- I settled on one of each. On our way to Kinokuniya, we got stopped by a lady who was smoking on the other side of the Simon & Schulster publishing house building. She gasped and said, "MY GIRLS! Oh my gawd, are you just meeting up or something?" Turns out she's a high-ranked Viz editor/staff and is in charge of the magazine Shoujo Beat, etc. ( O_O ) She wanted a picture of our group so she could showcase it in Shoujo Beat!! LOL, talk about being in the right place at the right time! She took a pic of us using Zoe's camera and gave Zoe her email address. Zoe said she would email her the entire collection of meet-up pics! XD
Damn, I'm pretty excited!
Kinokuniya was our next and final destination. We ended up spending a good hour or two browsing the place. Most of us congregated on the basement floor, where the children's section was. Virginia found these Pokemon picture books with Pokemon-"inspired" vocabulary, i.e. "pokeplay". XD It was hilarious; Virginia actually read aloud some of those books.
When we left Kinokuniya, Amber said she had to take Charlotte back to her hotel. :c Aww guys, you should have stayed! One of the best things happened last. Y'see, while lounging around in Bryant Park (which is across from Kinokuniya) eating the sweets we bought, a couple approached us. The husband and wife duo turned out to be professional photographers. They were interested in taking portraits of us! She also got pics of us while we were riding the carousel. She gave each of us her card and told us to email her later to get our shots. :D Her website:
ChristinaPaige.comEDIT: During the time the pair were taking pictures of us, a Floridian lady came over and asked what it was that we were wearing. She said she wanted to get a picture of us, then proceeded to tell us about how she brought her Sugar Glider along and asked whether we wanted to see it. Bianca knew what she was talking about, so she said yes! The woman reached into her pouch, and took out this little squirrel-like creature. It was so damn cute. ;_; By this time, the other people in the vicinity came over and started taking pictures. That little marsupial thing was crawling over everybody, either on an arm or on *ahem* a breast. XD Eventually the woman put the Sugar Glider back into its pouch, where it went back to sleep. Also, a little girl came up to us and asked about the fashion, which we gladly explained to her. Her sister then said something, and she retorted, "It's not a costume!" XDDD
Wewt! Almost done.
At the end we weren't able to visit Takashimaya and have tea, as our hosts had to leave, but overall it was one heck of a meet-up! Aya (
burikkoxp) wanted to watch The Dark Knight, which she had asked earlier if anybody wanted to see it with her.
yumewo and I jumped on the bandwagon. Personally, I was curious to see what the hype was all about. We treaded over to one of the movie theatres in Times Square, but every show except the one at 1:20 AM was sold out. Obviously we couldn't stay that late, so each of us started calling family members to see if they could check available times at different theatres in Manhattan. Lol, we sure wished we had an iPhone at that moment.....
In the end
yumewo had to leave since she lived in New Jersey, and Aya couldn't get permission from her parents to watch said movie in Queens, lol. So we went our separate ways, and now I'm here typing up this silly but friggin' long entry.
Zoe has the rest of the pics. She's gonna post them up eventually, and then you guys can see everything.
Man.... I should seriously plan a meet-up of my own. Actually, I have one in mind already for Winter Break '08.
So, my dear friends living in the Tristate Area, would you be able to attend a meet-up in December? If so, please let me know when you would be available; if not now, then in November. LOL.
Yesss, early feelers are always a plus! Space themed, btw.
Let me be more specific-- a meet-up to the U.S.S. Intrepid Air & Space Museum, followed by something in between, and then finally, lunch and/or dinner at Mars 2112. Sound good, Y/Y?
